Clip I made for my Mom, who is newly hooked on indigo. Shows unwrapping arashi indigo dyed shibori. Pattern is Mokume, meaning wood grain. Cotton linen blend fabric. Sorry for poor quality, wasn't planning for this venue. Stuff happens.
The first pen of a chinese student is always the old one from their parents, mostly the one they used in their studenthood, like an inheritance. The color of inks the mostly kids used is be given as well, mostly stands for the taste of their family.
In my observation, I found that:
People who use pure blue are mostly come from labor class or less educated ;
People woh use black blue ( Chinese name, like darker navy blue) are mostly come from well educated or schoolar family.
The black ink is more a choise of people who care handwriting/ calligraphy.
So I believe that Black Blue is the color of Chinese schoolar. It is not so strong contrasty as pure blue and black, but low-key and humble.
Not only western culture has a saying "blue Blood"or royal blue, Chinese noble also use blue.
noble in here is more related to King's bothers or high officer of govenment. Yellow is the exclusive color of king's own family. If the bothers of king or officers used the yellow, it will be seen as usurping power and the throne.
